VW Close to Decision on New Plant in Turkey

Volkswagen AG says it may finalize plans within two weeks to build a €1 billion ($1.1 billion) assembly plant in Turkey.
VW brand production chief Andreas Tostmann tells reporters that talks with the Turkish government are in the final stage. Sources tell Reuters the factory will have the capacity to make some 300,000 vehicles per year.
The facility is expected to make the VW Passat midsize sedan and its Skoda Superb variant when it begins operation in 2022.
Reuters reported earlier this month that VW also was considering Bulgaria for the factory. Reuters says negotiations in Turkey have centered around a scheme that would cut government taxes on locally built larger cars, such as the Passat, without penalizing existing producers.
