Volvo Cars Corp. took the wraps off its first all-electric vehicle, the XC40 Recharge compact crossover, yesterday in Sweden.

The 2020 model closely resembles the rest of the XC40 lineup, which offers gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The vehicles ride on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture.
The XC40 Recharge is powered by a pair of electric motors that generate a combined 408 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. Zero-to-60 mph acceleration is listed at 4.7 seconds.

The EV’s 75-kWh-hour lithium-ion battery provides a WLTP-rated driving range of about 250 miles and is expected to be listed at more than 200 miles by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Volvo says the battery can be replenished to 80% capacity in 40 minutes via a fast charging system.
Volvo will use the Recharge name on all future EVs and plug-in hybrid models. The electrified variants will be available on all Volvo models.
