The Honda Insight, Jaguar I-Pace and Mitsubishi Outlander were named the category winners for 2019 Car, Luxury Car and Truck of the Year by Green Car Journal (GCJ).

This year’s top winners are two hybrids and an all-electric model. But GCJ’s finalists also included cars powered by efficient internal combustion engines.

The third-generation Insight hybrid sedan (left) was recognized for its “driving enjoyment,” technology prowess and 52 mpg fuel efficiency rating. The other finalists for Green Car of the Year were the Lexus ES 300h, Nissan Altima, Toyota Avalon Hybrid and Volkswagen Jetta.

The all-electric I-Pace crossover was hailed for its combination of performance—including advanced torque vectoring—aggressive styling and 234-mile driving range. It beat out the Audi e-tron, Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, Range Rover P400e and Tesla Model 3 for Luxury Green Car of the Year.

GCJ says the midsize Outlander plug-in hybrid provides affordable and efficient all-wheel drive with an innovative configuration that combines aspects of parallel and series hybrid systems. Other finalists for Green SUV of the Year were the Cadillac XT4, Hyundai Kona, Lexus UX and Volvo XC40.

The winners were announced at this week’s AutoMobility LA show in Los Angeles. GCJ and a panel of automotive and environmental experts evaluated vehicles on efficiency, performance, design, value and overall environmental achievement.
