Volkswagen AG has centralized its regulatory compliance operations in an effort to avoid another disaster like its diesel emission cheating scandal.
The new system eliminates the company’s previous network of 25 separate compliance units. VW says it will continue separate investigative offices for Audi, Porsche and Truck & Bus operations.
Kurt Michels, VW’s new head of group compliance, points out that centralizing compliance will help the company quickly determine whether a problem affects multiple brands.
Michels says the company also has improved its whistleblower procedure to make it “fairer, more transparent and faster” for employees, customers and business partners to report illegal conduct by the VW workforce.
