Visteon Corp. has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. to develop autonomous driving technologies and cockpit electronics systems.

The initial focus will be on Level 3 and higher autonomous driving systems and cockpit domain controller units using Visteon's DriveCore and SmartCore domain controller platforms, respectively. GAC aims to launch unspecified autonomous driving systems on vehicles in 2020.

The partners also will explore potential applications for next-generation instrument clusters, displays, augmented reality head-up displays and domain controllers.

This year Visteon is launching SmartCore, which consolidates separate electronic control units and related software into a central controller, with an unnamed European carmaker. The company announced the new DriveCore development and control platform for driver-assist and autonomous vehicle systems earlier this week at the CES electronics show in Las Vegas.
