Scandinavian Partners Test Self-Driving Snowplows

Earlier this month Yeti Snow Technology tested a pair of self-driving snowplows at the Fagernes airport near Oslo.
Yeti says each of the plows can clear 357,500 square meters per hour. Routes and navigation instructions can be downloaded into the vehicles via a 4G modem. Operators also can control the vehicles, which are about 65 ft long and 18 ft wide, from a central location.
Semcon, an engineering services firm, worked with equipment supplier Overaasen to retrofit existing snowplows with autonomous braking, steering and throttle functions along with navigation and telematic systems. They hope to eventually provide the automated plows to a network of 45 airports operated by Avinor throughout Scandinavia.
