South Korea chemical giant LG Chem will spend 1.3 billion zloty (€302 million) to build a factory near Wroclaw, Poland, to make batteries for electric vehicles.
The facility will have capacity to make 100,000 batteries per year when it opens in 2019, according to Poland’s economic development ministry. The ministry says the batteries will be used in EVs with ranges as great as 320 km (200 miles) per charge.
Bloomberg News notes that European carmakers have shifted their product strategies from diesel to electric power. The development ministry describes the LG Chem plant as part of Poland’s efforts to advance its auto industry into higher-technology areas.
