Israeli V2V Developer Demos Motorsports Applications

Autotalks Ltd., an Israeli developer of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication chipsets, aims to use the technology in motorsports to help prevent crashes.

The company demonstrated a vehicle-to-vehicle system last month on a race track in Be’er Sheva in partnership with Griiip, a startup that designs and builds race cars. During the tests, a fleet of Griip’s G1 race cars were equipped with Autotalks’ Craton2 chipset.

The system can immediately alert drivers to potential hazards ahead, such as crashes, spinouts and slow-moving or idle vehicles. The in-vehicle alerts can be a flashing light and/or a buzzer that increases in intensity as the car gets closer to the danger area.

Autotalks says such alerts are much faster than waving a yellow flag at racers. The company, which was founded in 2008, is working on V2X chipsets for next-generation autonomous cars.

Griiip’s G1 single-seat racer will debut later this year in in Italy’s G1 Series. The company says the vehicle is one of the lightest race cars in the world, weighing just 390 kg (860 lbs) fully fueled.
