Volkswagen AG has suspended Frank Tuch, who heads quality control, as the company probes the sale of some 11 million diesel vehicles rigged to cheat emission tests, according to German media.

Tuch, 48, is the fifth high-level executive at the company to be suspended over the scandal, The New York Times reports.

The crisis also prompted IG Metall, VW’s union, to issue an unusually harsh statement declaring the company must change its rigid hierarchy. The union also complains VW is using the crisis to make job cuts.

Tuch came to VW Group from Porsche AG, where he became head of quality control in 2002, the Times notes. and has been credited with boosting the marque’s customer satisfaction ratings in the closely watched J.D. Power ranking. Porsche was acquired by VW in 2009.
