Toyota Motor Corp. says its latest fuel cell-powered concept car can travel 50% farther on a tank of hydrogen than the company’s current Mirai fuel cell sedan.

The Toyota Fine-Comfort Ride (FCR) concept, which will be publicly unveiled next week at the Tokyo auto show, has an estimated driving range of 1,000 km (620 miles) on the Japanese driving cycle. The Mirai can travel 650 km between fill ups.

The fuel cell system powers electric motors at each wheel, which are pushed to the corners of the vehicle to maximize interior space. The underbody is enclosed to improve aerodynamics and dampen road and tire noises.

The cabin includes reconfigurable front seats and a sofa-like rear unit. There also are multiple touchscreens and projectors designed for use during autonomous driving operation.
