BMW and Daimler are preparing to integrate their car-sharing service platforms in a bid to enhance their ability to compete with Uber, sources tell Manager Magazin.

Daimler launched its Car2Go service, in which subscribers can rent ForTwo city cars by the hour, in 2008. BMW’s version, a venture with Sixt called DriveNow, debuted in 2011.

Manager says the two companies will continue to market their own branded services. The magazine says the rivals also are discussing the possibility of expanding shared platforms to encompass more of their alternative transportation services.

Daimler already coordinates Car2Go and its MyTaxi cab-hailing app through Moovel, an app that enables users to compare transportation options and book rides. BMW offers ParkNow, an app that helps drivers find and reserve parking spaces, and ChargeNow, a charging station finder for electric-vehicle owners.
