Renault SA has agreed to help test Qualcomm Inc.'s wireless recharging technology in London later this year. The French carmaker is already testing similar technology under its own program in Europe.
Qualcomm's inductive Halo charging system enables a specially equipped electric vehicle to recharge its battery wirelessly simply by parking above a panel on the ground. The company acquired the technology last November when it bought London-based HaltoIPT Ltd.
The California company also has signed a deal to test Halo-equipped E-4 electric sport coupes built by U.K.-based Delta Motorsport Ltd. Other participants in the London test include EV infrastructure company Chargemaster plc and British minicab company Addison Lee.
