Qualcomm Inc. has signed an agreement to license its wireless electric vehicle charging (WEVC) technology to Preh GmbH.
Under the agreement, Preh will develop, produce and supply wireless systems based on Qualcomm’s Halo technology for hybrid and full EVs. Preh says it is in discussions with several unnamed global carmakers about potential applications.
Qualcomm will supply a technology transfer package and provide Preh with ongoing technical support. The two companies also will work together to further develop the technology.
This is Qualcomm’s second licensing agreement in as many months. In October it inked a similar deal with Lumen Australia.
Preh, which was acquired by China’s Joyson Electronics Group in 2011, supplies human-to-machine interfaces and control units. Earlier this year Joyson bought TechniSat Automotive, which specializes in infotainment, telematics and connectivity systems.
