Mercedes Begins Production of EQC Electric Crossover

Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit has begun assembling its all-electric EQC small crossover vehicle at its factory in Bremen, Germany. The company says it is taking orders now.
The €71,300 ($79,900) car boasts a range of about 460 km (285 miles). The EQC’s two-motor, 408-hp powertrain and 80-kWh lithium-ion battery can haul the car from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 180 kph (112 mph).
The EQC is the first of 10 all-electric models Daimler plans to introduce under the EQ sub-brand by 2025. The company has predicted that 15%-25% of its total passenger vehicle sales volume will consist of electrified vehicles by then.
Daimler also plans to begin EQC production in China later this year through the company’s Beijing Benz Automotive venture. In 2020, Daimler’s factory in Vance, Ala., will launch the EQE crossover and reportedly may add the EQS flagship sedan two years later.
Daimler also plans to add the electric EQA small hatch in 2020.
