Jaguar Land Rover Ltd.’s Jaguar unit plans to launch a midsize crossover/SUV in 2021.
The all-new model will be called the J-Pace and share a platform with Land Rover’s Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs, Autocar reports. The U.K. enthusiast magazine, which doesn’t cite its sources, says the J-Pace will be priced at more than £80,000 ($113,000) and compete against the Porsche Cayenne and Maserati Levante in key markets such as China and the U.S.
In addition to riding on the Range Rover’s aluminum chassis, the J-Pace is expected to share that vehicle’s running gear and powertrains. But the Jaguar model likely will be longer, lower and more on-road oriented than its Land Rover cousin, Autocar says.
The J-Pace would be the Jaguar’s fourth crossover/SUV. The brand introduced the compact F-Pace crossover in 2016, which was followed by the smaller E-Pace last year.
Worldwide sales of the F-Pace topped 70,000 units last year, making it Jaguar’s best-selling model. Crossover/SUVs could account for as many as two-thirds of Jaguar’s sales by early next decade, Autocar says, noting that the F-Pace could get a mid-cycle update next year with a full replacement slated for 2022.
