Intertek Group plc's Transportation Technologies unit is adding new powertrain testing and development services at its Milton Keynes, U.K., facility. The 1,000-kW test cells, which can be used for conventional vehicles as well as hybrid and all-electric models, can accommodate cars, heavy trucks, buses and off-highway vehicles.
The multi-million dollar investment includes six test cells, four of which are already operational. Another two, due to be commissioned in August, will be equipped with high- and low-speed 550-kW transient dynamometers that Intertek says will allow for either individual engine or full driveline testing.
The two new cells will be supported by two 150-kW, 1,000-volt battery simulators that can be split between the two or combined to deliver as much as 300 kW to one cell for testing of vehicles with one or two driven axles.
