Denso Corp. has opened an Innovation Lab in Seattle, Wash., that will develop advanced mobility technologies and services.
The 3,300-sq-ft facility will employ nine researchers, who will collaborate with local tech companies and universities. The company says initial projects will concern mobility-as-a-service, cloud-based computing and other technologies for connected and autonomous vehicle systems.
Denso opened a similar lab in Montreal, Quebec, earlier this year to develop artificial intelligence systems. The two facilities are part of the Japanese supplier’s efforts to expand beyond its role as a components supplier for traditional passenger cars.
This year Denso has made investments in Uber and e-bike startup Bond Mobility, and it is partnering with Honeywell to develop electric propulsion systems for future flying cars.
