ZF Friedrichshafen AG has joined the University of California-Berkley’s DeepDrive research consortium for computer vision and machine learning technologies in automotive applications.
As part of the consortium, ZF aims to bolster its capabilities in computer vision and deep learning systems, which is an advanced form of artificial intelligence. Advances in these areas are needed to improve the sensors and software algorithms that will enable next-generation autonomous vehicles.
Formed last year, DeepDrive focuses on pedestrian detection and intent, scene classification, potential actions and control policies using the university’s deep-learning architecture. The multi-disciplinary center teams faculty and researchers from UC-Berkley’s advanced transportation, computer science, electrical engineering and information technology departments.
Other industry members include Bosch, Ford, Honda, Nvidia, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung, Toyota and Volkswagen.
