Volvo Trucks Teams with Nvidia on Autonomous Tech

Truckmaker AB Volvo is using chipmaker Nvidia Corp.’s artificial intelligence processing technology to further develop, test and operate self-driving trucks.
Volvo says co-located teams in Sweden and Silicon Valley will adapt Nvidia’s Drive AGX Pegasus platform for use in a variety of commercial truck applications. The initiative targets buses, freight transport, refuse and recycling collection, construction, mining and forestry.
The software stack will provide 360° sensor processing, perception, map localization and path planning. Nvidia’s hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform will be used to test and validate the systems.
Volvo, which demonstrated its first autonomous truck last year, currently is testing an autonomous electric bus in Singapore. Last week, the company announced a new pilot program for a self-driving truck that will make short-haul drayage runs in Gothenburg.
