PSA Peugeot Citroen will build an assembly plant in Kenitra, Morocco, with initial capacity to make 90,000 cars per year, a French union leader tells Bloomberg News. It isn't clear when the facility will begin operations.
Last month Bloomberg reported plans for the factory, citing unnamed sources. PSA's sales in Africa and the Middle East fell 25% to 169,400 units in 2014. But registrations in January-March climbed 18% to 76,900 units.
The new Moroccan facility will be PSA's first wholly owned factory in Africa. The car maker trails rival Renault SA, which operates two assembly plants in Morocco and a third in Algeria.
