Toyota Will Triple Fuel-Cell Capacity in Japan

Toyota Motor Corp. plans to spend about 20 billion yen ($164 million) to triple its annual capacity to make fuel cells and hydrogen fuel tanks, The Nikkei reports.
The expansion will add two more fuel-cell assembly lines at Toyota's headquarters factory in Aichi Prefecture by the end of 2015. Output will be used for the company's just-introduced Mirai fuel-cell-powered sedan, which goes on sale in Japan next week and in Europe and the U.S. next summer.
Toyota says orders for the Mirai are likely to surpass its current annual capacity of 700 units. The company is targeting sales of 400 cars in Japan next year, about 100 in Europe by 2016 and 3,000 in the U.S. by the end of 2017.
