Toyota to Test Fuel Cell Cars in China

Toyota Motor Corp. says it will begin China tests of its fuel cell-powered Mirai sedan in October.
The carmaker also plans to open a hydrogen refueling station in Changshu to support the project, Reuters reports. Toyota has sold roughly 3,000 Mirai models worldwide to date.
Hiroji Onishi, who heads Toyota operations in China, says Toyota wants to assess the quality of locally produced hydrogen fuel and determine how well the Mirai runs on it. He didn’t say whether the company might offer the $58,000 car for sale in China.
The Mirai debuted in Japan in mid-2014 and has since been introduced in certain parts of the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. The four-seater has a U.S. government gasoline-equivalent fuel economy rating of 67 mpg. The vehicle can travel about 310 miles per tank of compressed hydrogen and refuel in about three minutes.
