Toyota Plans Factory to Make Fuel Cell Stacks
Toyota Motor Corp. says it will erect a plant near its global headquarters to supply fuel cell stacks for its fuel cell-powered vehicles.
The plant will adjoin the company’s Honsha plant. Toyota also is setting up a production line at its nearby Shimoyama facility to produce tanks that store the hydrogen used by fuel cells to make electricity.
Toyota currently builds about 3,000 fuel cell vehicles per year. The company intends to hike output of such vehicles tenfold by 2020.
