Electric and connected vehicle technologies are two of at least 10 potential areas of collaboration being evaluated by Toyota Motor Corp and Mazda Motor Corp., Bloomberg News reports.

The Japanese automakers last year announced they were exploring a variety of long-term partnerships to  leverage their resources and cut costs. At the time, media reports listed safety, alternative powertrains and environmental initiatives as likely areas for cooperation.

Akira Marumoto, Mazda's executive vice president, affirms that talks between the companies are ongoing but declines to elaborate. Toyota already supplies technology for Mazda hybrid cars, while Mazda builds the Mazda2-based Yaris iA (formerly Scion iA) minicar for Toyota in Mexico.
