Suzuki Motor Corp. has officially opened its third car assembly plant in Indonesia, expanding annual capacity in the country by 50% to 316,000 units.
Suzuki Indomobil Motor's new $1 billion facility in Cikarang can make 106,000 vehicles per year. The facility currently builds the Ertiga seven-seat MPV at an annual rate of about 50,000 units. The company says it will soon add "several" other unspecified models.
The Cikarang facility also makes 3- and 4-cylinder engines and transmissions for the Ertiga and Suzuki Wagon R minivan. The plant joins Suzuki carmaking factories in Cakung and Tambun, which have combined capacity to produce 210,000 cars per year, notes The Jakarta Globe.
Last year Suzuki sold 160,500 vehicles in Indonesia and exported 25,000 units to several ASEAN and Latin American markets, according to The Jakarta Post. The newspaper says Suzuki aims to increase exports to 30,000 units in 2015.
