Volkswagen Group's SEAT unit suspended production today at its factory in Martorell, Spain, today because a labor strike at its seating provider disrupted supplies.
The walkout at Johnson Controls Eurosit SL's seating plant near Barcelona halted output of SEAT Altea small MPVs, Ibiza superminis and Leon five-door hatches and idled about 14,000 workers. The Martorell facility normally makes about 2,100 vehicles per day.
The strike, which began Wednesday, is scheduled to continue to next Tuesday. Reports say workers fear job losses after the plant lost a bid to supply seats for the next-generation Ibiza to another Spanish supplier.
