Sumitomo Corp. is preparing to sell fuel-cell systems for commercial vehicles, according to The Nikkei, which cites no sources.
The Tokyo-based newspaper says Sumitomo will target Japanese manufacturers with systems developed and built by US Hybrid Corp. The Torrance, Calif.-based company specializes in fuel cells for medium- and heavy-duty buses and trucks.
A year ago one of the company’s systems successfully completed a record 20,000 hours of service in a transit bus with zero fuel-cell stack failures. Earlier this year US Hybrid introduced its first freeze-capable integrated fuel cell system for commercial trucks.
