Renault SA says it will push back the debut of an electric version of its Zoe supermini until next year because of a bug in the software it uses to monitor battery usage and other data.

The Clio-based Zoe EV, unveiled in concept form at the 2010 Paris auto show, had been expected to hit European showrooms late this year. Renault tells Automotive News Europe it will begin taking orders for the car in September when the production version appears at this year's Paris auto show. The company hopes eventually to sell about 150,000 Zoe EVs annually.

The little hatchback will be propelled by an electric motor that makes 80 hp and 164 lb-ft of torque. The car will have a range of about 100 miles and be able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in about 8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 84 mph.

Renault says the car's battery can be recharged in 6-8 hours using household current. A high-power quick-charger can restore the battery to 80% capacity in 30 minutes or about one-third capacity in less than 10 minutes.
