Renault Expands V2X Testing

Renault SA is widening a pilot program in France to test vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications (V2X) to help autonomous vehicles navigate roads such as work zones and tool stations that lack clear lane markings.
The carmaker is working with Sanef Group, a French toll operator, on the initiative. During the program, which will run through mid-2018, a fleet of prototype autonomous Renault vehicles will share information with each other and the infrastructure to create virtual lane markings as multiple lanes are merged into toll crossings.
The program builds on the European SCOOP project launched last year that eventually will involve 3,000 vehicles and 2,000 km (1,200 miles) of roads throughout France. Test vehicles will share information about changing road and traffic conditions based on inputs such as tire traction and harsh braking maneuvers.
