San Diego-based Qualcomm Technologies Inc. says it has developed a new reference platform to help make it easier and faster to develop and implement connected-vehicle technologies. The company plans to launch the platform by the end of the year.
The new system can manage a large number of in-vehicle functions, including the simultaneous operation of multiple wireless technologies (wi-fi, Bluetooth and so called Bluetooth low-energy networks) over common frequencies. It also is scalable, supports third-party applications and allows vehicle hardware and software to be upgraded as needed, according to Qualcomm.
The platform features in-vehicle networking technologies such as gigabit Ethernet with automotive audio bus and controller area network interfaces. It is built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X12 and X5 LTE modems.
