Chipmaker Nividia Corp. has introduced a single-processor configuration of its Drive PX system-on-a-chip platform for advanced driver assist functions.
The company already offers dual-processor configurations of the technology, which uses artificial intelligence to integrate inputs from various sensors to precisely map a vehicle’s surroundings. The smaller unit requires just 10 watts of power and can be tailored to specific functions such as automated highway driving and high-definition mapping, according to Nvidia.
The single-processor system will be launched in the fourth quarter. China’s Baidu Inc. will use it later this year in a fleet of prototype self-driving cars.
Last week Nvidia and Baidu announced plans to co-develop a cloud-based operating platform for self-driving cars. Nvidia says it is working with more than 80 carmakers and suppliers on autonomous vehicle programs.
