Tesla Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. founder Elon Musk is launching a new venture that aims to integrate artificial intelligence with the human brain, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Musk and co-founder Max Hodak confirmed the existence of the new California-based company, which will be called Neuralink Corp., but provided few details. Hodak previously founded Transcriptic, a startup that provides robotic lab services.
Using a concept known as “neural lace,” Neuralink aims to implant tiny electrodes into the brain to enhance memory and thought capabilities, according to the report. The technology also promises to help treat brain disorders such as epilepsy and depression and combat other disorders.
Hodak describes the ambitious company as being in the “embryonic” stage with its plans in flux. Musk is said to be considering taking a leadership role in the company's future.
