Mitsubishi Motors Corp. plans to introduce an all-electric mini-SUV/crossover vehicle in Japan in 2019 and in global markets in the early 2020s, according to The Nikkei.
The newspaper, which cites no sources, says the vehicle will succeed MMC’s bubble-like i-MiEV electric five-door hatch that debuted in 2009 as Japan’s first EV.
Now a member of the Renault-Nissan alliance, MMC will share technologies with its partners and may use platforms and components from Nissan. The alliance announced previously it will offer a dozen electric and plug-in hybrid models, by 2022. The group expects those models will generate 30% of its overall unit sales by then.
