Judge Overturns Germany's Ban on Uber Ride-Share Service
A regional court judge in Frankfurt has reversed a temporary injunction issued more than two weeks ago that banned Uber Technologies Inc.'s UberPop ride-sharing service throughout Germany.
A regional court judge in Frankfurt has reversed a temporary injunction issued more than two weeks ago that banned Uber Technologies Inc.'s UberPop ride-sharing service throughout Germany.
The ruling does not affect a separate lawsuit, also filed by Taxi Deutschland, that challenges the legality of the service. UberPop enables passengers to use a smartphone app to connect with drivers of privately owned vehicles.
The judge said Taxi Deutschland waited too long to seek the injunction. The consortium contends that UberPop violates German law that requires livery drivers to have professional chauffeur licenses.
Taxi Deutschland hasn't challenged Uber's more expensive Uberblack service, whose drivers have such licenses.
