Hyundai Mobis Partners with Russian Firm on Robo-Taxis
Hyundai Mobis Co. has agreed to partner with Russian tech giant Yandex NV to develop an autonomous vehicle platform.
Hyundai Mobis Co. has agreed to partner with Russian tech giant Yandex NV to develop an autonomous vehicle platform.
Under the collaboration, Yandex will team its artificial intelligence software with Hyundai Mobis sensors. The integrated system will be retrofitted into Hyundai Sonata sedans, which the partners plan to use as part of a robot-taxi pilot program. As many as 100 of the vehicles are expected to be in operation in Russia and other markets in coming years.
Yandex has been developing its technology for about two years. The company claims to have tested fully autonomous vehicles in Moscow, Las Vegas and Tel Aviv.
In addition to autonomous vehicles, Hyundai Mobis plans to partner with Yandex on artificial intelligence technologies for voice and video recognition, and next-generation infotainment technologies.
