Honda Feeling Its Way on Smart Car Technology
As part of its new artificial intelligence research center near Tokyo, Honda Motor Co. is partnering with Japan’s SoftBank Corp. and its Cocoro subsidiary to further develop that company’s “emotion engine” technology, which the partners say allows machines to recognize and react to a driver's emotions.
As part of its new artificial intelligence research center near Tokyo, Honda Motor Co. is partnering with Japan’s SoftBank Corp. and its Cocoro subsidiary to further develop that company’s “emotion engine” technology, which the partners say allows machines to recognize and react to a driver’s emotions.
Potential automotive applications include using cameras, sensors, historical data and other inputs to help determine a driver’s feelings. The partners say this will enable conversational-like interactions and “shared experiences” between the driver and the vehicle to create a greater connection between the two, including fostering trust in automated vehicle technologies.
