Honda Motor Co. says its N-One minicar delivers 63.5 mpg on Japan's JC08 fuel economy test cycle. The tiny five-door hatchback goes on sale today in Japan.
The $17,000 four-seater is a production version of the N Concept 4 that Honda showed at last year's Tokyo auto show. Standard equipment includes electronic stability control, side curtain airbags, hill-start assist and an Emergency Stop Signal system that rapidly blinks the rear hazard lights if the driver suddenly brakes.
A 658-cc turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine powers the 1,900-lb N-One, delivering 63 hp and 77 lb-ft of torque through a continuously variable transmission.
