General Motors Co. says it will launch more than 20 new all-electric models worldwide by 2023.
The rollout will start in the next 18 months with a pair of vehicles that GM says build on what it learned from the Chevrolet Bolt electric small car. GM introduced the Bolt, which starts at $37,500, last December.
GM made the announcement at a media event on Monday at its Warren, Mich., technical center. The company showed clay models of three concept models—a Buick SUV, Cadillac crossover and a futuristic Bolt—that incorporate a flexible battery pack design that GM says can be used in a range of different-sized vehicles.
GM also unveiled a fuel cell-powered concept vehicle. Dubbed SURUS (Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure), the vehicle is built on a heavy-duty truck frame that's driven by two electric motors and features autonomous driving capabilities.
