GM Donates Self-Driving Chevy Bolt to Ford Museum
General Motors Co. has donated its first autonomous vehicle, a prototype Chevrolet Bolt electric car, to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich.

General Motors Co. has donated its first autonomous vehicle, a prototype Chevrolet Bolt electric car, to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich.
GM says the vehicle is the first self-driving car displayed at the museum, which contains more than 26 million artifacts. The Bolt is stationed near the entrance of the “Driving America” exhibit as part of the museum’s American Innovation area.
The modified Bolt is outfitted with cameras, radar and lidar sensors to identify and track road objects. GM developed the vehicle in 2016 with is Cruise Automation unit, which the carmaker acquired at about the same time.
In 2017, GM donated $5 million to The Henry Ford historical foundation, which oversees the museum and other nearby historic sites. The pledge includes sponsoring an exhibit space in the museum to promote education, careers and accomplishments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
