General Motors Co. is dropping prices by 50% for the 4G LTE data packages used by its OnStar customers in the U.S. for in-car Internet access.
OnStar says it monthly charges will now fall to $10 for one gigabyte of data, $20 for 4GB and $40 for 10GB. The program is handled through AT&T.
The LTE service debuted two years ago. The wi-fi system turns a car into a mobile hot spot accessible by as many as seven devices simultaneously.
More than 3 million GM vehicles are now equipped with 4G capabilities, a volume that enables the price cut, according to the company. Chevrolet-brand customers alone have consumed more than 3 million gigabytes of data to date.
