Falling oil prices spurred South Korea’s consumption of gasoline and diesel fuel to climb to a second-quarter record this year, The Korea Herald reports, citing government data.
April-June purchases of gasoline rose 4% year-on-year to 20 million barrels, according to the country’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Demand for diesel fuel also grew 4%, to 43.2 million barrels.
Korea imported 265 million barrels of crude during the same period, about 1% less than in the second quarter of 2016. The Herald says nearly 3 million barrels of the total came from the U.S., up from zero last year.
