Ford Motor Co. is partnering with Amazon.com to offer package deliveries directly to owners’ vehicles.

The carmaker will offer the service in select Ford and Lincoln 2017 or later model vehicles equipped with internet connectivity. General Motors and Volvo struck similar deals with Amazon last year.
Dubbed Amazon Key In-Car, the service delivers packages to parked vehicles in publicly accessible areas, whether or not a person is there to take delivery. This allows Amazon to use a one-time code to unlock vehicles via a smartphone app.
Customers receive notifications when the delivery is on its way, after it is completed and when the vehicle is relocked. Additional delivery addresses can be added to the Amazon address book at any time.
The service is not available for vehicles parked in garages with restricted entry or multi-level or underground garages, because such facilities lack a GPS signal for in-car delivery.
