General Motors Co. has appointed Pamela Fletcher to the new position of vice president of innovation, effective Oct. 1.

Fletcher, who was named vice president of electrical vehicle programs last October, will report directly to CEO Mary Barra. Fletcher will be responsible for identifying and developing new mobility technologies.

A long-time GM engineering and electric vehicle executive, she is credited with leading the team that launched the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the second-generation Chevy Bolt hybrid.

Doug Parks, vice president of autonomous and electrical vehicle programs, will assume Fletcher’s previous duties in addition to his own. Fletcher previously reported to Parks.

Separately, Michael Ableson, currently GM’s vice president of global strategy, will move to a newly created position of vice president of electrical vehicle infrastructure. He will report to Fletcher in the new role, which will focus on developing a recharging infrastructure in the U.S. and forging related partnerships

GM aims to launch 20 EVs and fuel cell-powered vehicles worldwide by 2023.
