Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Google Inc. have developed a telematics concept that teams the tech giant’s Android operating system with FCA’s 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment and controls system.
The concept will include controls for core infotainment features such as radio and “comfort” features, according to the companies. The system also is designed for “connectivity and compatibility" with Google Assistant, Google Maps and third-party apps such as Pandora, Spotify, NPR One and Pocket Casts.
The partners will demonstrate the technology, which is powered by Android 7.0 Nougat, in a Chrysler 300 sedan this week during the CES electronics show in Las Vegas. FCA says it has been working with Google on the program for several months.
FCA also is working with Google’s parent Alphabet Inc.’s new Waymo subsidiary on self-driving vehicle technologies. Last month the carmaker said it delivered 100 Chrysler Pacifica minivans to Waymo, which is fitting them with specially built computers, sensors and other systems.
