Faraday Future Inc., the California electric-car startup, has lost its chief battery architect, Bloomberg News reports.
Porter Harris, who had headed the company’s battery design and engineering, left this month to join Lotus Research and Development LLC. Faraday hired Harris away from rival Tesla Motor Inc. CEO Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket company 15 months ago.
The timing of Harris’ departure is awkward for Faraday Future, which is unveiling a concept of its first EV this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Last month Faraday said it plans to erect a $1 billion manufacturing facility in North Las Vegas and launch its first model in 2017.
The ultra-secretive company is backed by Chinese Internet mogul Jia Yueting. It has so far declined to reveal the identity of its management team or offer details about the vehicle it plans to build.
