Los Angeles-based EVgo Services LLC has begun installing fast chargers for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles at select Chevron stations in California.
The chargers, which are compatible with any vehicle with a DC system, have capacities between 50 kW and 100 kW. Such systems can provide as much as 90 miles of driving ranges in 30 minutes, EVgo says.
More than a dozen EVgo chargers already are operational or under construction at five Chevron stations. The initial applications are at facility in Menlo Park, Calif.
EVgo, which has more than 1,100 fast chargers and another 1,000 Level 2 systems in 34 states, plans to double its American network by the end of 2020. Earlier this month, the company announced plans to eventually switch to 100% renewable solar and wind power to derive the electricity stored in its fast chargers.
In January, EVgo partnered with General Motors Co. on a smartphone app designed to help EV owners locate nearby charging stations. The app also supports stations that use ChargePoint and Greenlots chargers.
