A group of nine European companies plan over the next 18 months to open nearly 300 fast-charge stations to serve battery-powered vehicles in Belgium and Germany.
The so-called Fast-E project, which is co-funded by the European Union, will involve 241 stations in Germany and 37 in Belgium. A sister project in Czech Republic and Slovakia will add another 30 stations in those markets.
The stations will use both the CHADEMO and Combined Charging System charging protocols with capabilities as high as 50 kW.
Fast-E involves three charging station companies, including program leader Allego of the Netherlands. Carmaker participants are BMW, Renault-Nissan and Volkswagen. DB Energie and Hamburg-based hySolutions will serve as the program integrator.
