Diesel Test Cheating by VW Spawns Dozens of Lawsuits
At least 25 class-action lawsuits were filed within four days against Volkswagen AG for secretly rigging some of its diesel engines with stringent "test" and dirtier "road" settings, Reuters reports.
At least 25 class-action lawsuits were filed within four days against Volkswagen AG for secretly rigging some of its diesel engines with stringent "test" and dirtier "road" settings, Reuters reports.
The lawsuits represent VW diesel owners in all 50 states. The complaints claim VW defrauded consumers by portraying their vehicles as clean and efficient and have now left them with cars whose value has suddenly dropped.
Reuters says law firms were able to respond quickly to last Friday's revelation about VW because many owners of the company's diesel cars are themselves attorneys. Ten plaintiffs' law firms contacted by the news service say they are being inundated by calls from Audi and VW owners and won't need to advertise for clients.
The multiple lawsuits are likely to be combined later this year before a single federal judge for pretrial hearings.
