Robert Bosch GmbH has opened the first phase of a new proving ground in Donghai, China, about 270 miles northwest of Shanghai to conduct year-around testing of vehicle electronics, including antilock braking and electronic stability control systems.

The $96 million project will be erected in three stages between now and 2017. It joins an existing Chinese test facility Bosch operates in Inner Mongolia.

The 346-acre site in Donghai will house labs, service facilities and a test track. The facility is a part of Bosch's Chassis Systems Control division.

Bosch says about 20% of new passenger vehicles in China are equipped with an antiskid system. The company predicts that ratio will reach 33% by 2015.
