Bimmer Plug-in Hybrid Gets Bigger Battery
BMW AG says its next-generation 330e plug-in hybrid sedan will be equipped with a larger battery that is expected to increase its all-electric range by about one-third to 37 miles.

BMW AG says its next-generation 330e plug-in hybrid sedan will be equipped with a larger battery that is expected to increase its all-electric range by about one-third to 60 km (37 miles) on the European driving cycle.
Launching next summer, the new car features a 12-kWh lithium-ion battery in place of the current model’s 7.6-kWh unit. The larger battery and extended range also will help reduce fuel consumption and emissions by about 10%, according to the carmaker.
The hybrid system teams an electric motor with a twin-turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, a combination that generates 252 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 model includes an “XtraBoost” mode that increases output to 293 hp and hikes the top speed in electric mode 17% to 87 mph.
The car’s in-vehicle navigation system can locate and provide directions to nearby public charging stations. BMW says the system also identifies charger availability and allows users to reserve a spot within a defined future period.
